Home  /  Why a TPU

Design with TPUs and discover the formidable benefits of this specialty thermoplastic product family :

Since their invention in the late 1940s, Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPU) are being used in a wide variety of industries and markets such as Automotive, Wire & Cable, Sporting goods, Garments, Telecommunications, Footwear and Industrial goods.

Main product categories are Crystalline TPUs for Adhesives and Elastomers TPUs.

Crystalline TPUs are Crystalline polymers, which have been specially developed for use as raw materials in bonding applications such as footwear, furniture automotive and others industry.

Elastomer
TPUs belong to the family of materials known as thermoplastic elastomers (TPE).They are specialty materials that have virtually the elasticity of crosslinked elastomers (rubber) and the processability and recyclability of thermoplastics ,covering a wide range of hardnesses.

TPUs are preferred by design engineers and processors for its superior toughness, outstanding abrasion and tear resistance, along with its excellent resistance to oils, solvents, fuels and chemicals and high moisture vapour transmission properties.
In addition, unique among other TPEs, TPUs feature excellent transparency up to 98 shore A.

They are easy to process in a wide range of equipments (Extrusion,Calendering, Injection Moulding and Compounding).

According to various recent industry studies , world demand for TPUs should rise up to 6%/year through 2006 with strongest gains in automotive, consumer and sporting goods Demand is primarily driven by increased requirements for :

  · "Soft touch" and ergonomic applications onto rigid polar substrates or metal    components.
  · PVC substitution
  · Natural and Synthetic Rubber replacement
