Product Series
PEARLTHANE
stands for a range of high performance TPU resins intended for extrusion
and injection moulding markets. Each range of products is carefully designed
and optimized to excel in a specific field of applications.

Series 11H
High performance extrusion/injection moulding grades based on newest Merquinsa’s technology; 11H grades exhibit higher crystallinity, faster processing, outstanding mechanical properties and improved chemical resistance. Also offers other benefits such as Low density or high fluidity grades which help you to reduce costs.
Series 11T
The 11T series offers
outstanding abrasion and wear resistance and a fast setup in the mould.
The 11T series outperforms conventional adipate ester based TPUs in hydrolysis
resistance and low temperature flexibility,
as well as adhesion strength to other polar plastics such as ABS, PA and
PVC.

Series 12C
This family of low melting polyester
based TPUs is currently being developed for a wide range of speciality
engineering plastics compounds. The special thermal and rheological properties
of this series provides enhanced compatibility with a wide variety of
other thermoplastics.
Series 12F
Based on Merquinsa´s expertise in both high-melting
film grade TPUs and adhesive and coating applications, this new series
is especially being designed for the adhesive film markets in which film
quality and outstanding adhesion performance are the key properties.
Series 12K
This unique range of polyester based TPUs consists of a
very clear, gel free, low color and easy to extrude film range of both
high and medium melting range. All grades of this
family are FDA approved products. Specific high tack grades are also available
in film grade quality.

12K85
Series 15N
This family consists of a unique series of TPU grades based
on polyether copolymers offering excellent hydrolysis
resistance in combination with good heat resistance
and mechanical properties. Additionally, the 15N series excels for its
outstanding low temperature performance and elastic properties.

15N85 & Literature "Technological
Advantages of Polyether Copolymer based TPUs"
Series 16N
The polyether based TPUs are used when extreme good hydrolysis
and microbial resistance are required, e.g. in underground applications
such as certain cables. The polyether range complies with FDA regulations.
Series 18VT
Special Polyether family based TPU featuring high moisture vapour transmission (HMVT), outstanding wear resistance and excellent blown/flat film processing. This family’s grades also offer the desired hydrolysis and microbe protection.
Series 91T
This series is an aliphatic specialty TPU for injection moulding. It offers non yellowing properties which make it the material of choice for light colours in interior automotive and sport & leisure applications.
Series 95N
Aliphatic polyether copolymer-based TPU represents 95N grades offering full UV resistance, good mechanical properties, as well as improved hydrolysis resistance compared to Series 11T & Series 11H based on polyester TPU. When series 95N is overmoulded into other polar polymers such as ABS, PC or PA, the result is a perfect combination of elasticity, UV protection and abrasion resistance with a wide range of applications.
Melting Range Overview
In the figure below, Merquinsa´s range is depicted
on the melting temperature scale.

For more information, please consult
us.
Hydrolysis Resistance
In the picture below, the hydrolysis resistance (immersion
test in distilled water at 80ºC) is presented for the 85 Shore A
grades of the different PEARLTHANE
families.
Heat Resistance
The unique copolymer family also features an improved heat
resistance in comparison to polyethers as illustrated in the Figure. The
graph shows the half life time (time needed to reduce the sample's tensile
strength with 50%) versus the test temperature.

Low Temperature Flexibility
One of the most important feautures of TPUs is their excellent
low temperature flexibility. In the figure below, the differences between
the described product families are depicted in terms of glass transition
temperatures.

Product Series' comparative table
A qualitative comparison of the Series 12K, 15N and 16N
is presented below for a selection of properties. Please notice the differences
in microbe and hydrolysis resistance as well as heat ageing.

Colouring
PEARLTHANE
is only supplied in its natural color which would be somewhere between
transparent yellow and opaque white depending on the grades.
However, PEARLTHANE
can be coloured easily via masterbatches.
Merquinsa would recommend TPU masterbatches with PEARLTHANE
and PEARLCOAT as
the carrier materials.
Masterbatches based on polyethylene, polypropylene or PVC are not suitable.

us.
